I am looking forward to buying someone a hamster but don’t know how much they cost. Where is the cheapest place you can buy a healthy hamster in San Diego? besides Petsmart.

If you’re buying hamsters as food for snakes, don’t buy them at Petsmart, lol. Pricey, and those breeds are specialty ones as pets.

You should consider searching local papers, craigslist, etc. to find a hamster breeder.
Often hamsters sold in petstores are not handled frequently enough, so may have socialisation issues, which may lead to fear biting.
They may also be over OR inbred, which will cause health problems.
If you’re able to find a reputable breeder, not only will your hamster be cheaper, but they will most likely be healthier, happier and very tame, due to being well handled from birth by someone who loves them!
