can you put two dwarf hamsters in th same cage?

Posted on Feb 04, 2010 under dwarf hamsters | 8 Comments

I want to get two dwarf hamsters and i want to know if they would fight each other? I also want to know if you should get two male, two female, or both in the same cage?

If they’re younger than 5 months, and have grown up together it’s possible, but not definite. if not i wouldn’t reccomend it. you can try but if they fight seperate them immediately, have another cage ready

They may fight at first, but that’s typically to establish the pecking order.
If you get a male and a female, be prepared to have A LOT of baby hams. I would suggest two males myself.

NO YOU SHOULD NOT!! I have had two female dwarf hamsters for a long time and they always fight! We got a fish tank and split it in half to keep them from fighting. All you ever hear is squeaking and I am always afraid they are really hurting each other. My advice is only get ONE. That will make it easier on yourself.

These people above don’t know much, well exept for animallover ..i have had 12 years of breeding experience, The only breed that is naturally Territorial, is the Syrian, i did a report on then is 7th grade and iv owned well over 20 of them in my years, but yes you can house to females together, make sure you introduce them in a neutral inviorment, you should get 2 or 3 females, and the only dwarf breed iv ever had to separate from a fight is the winter white Campbell’s!
