Whilst hamsters are quite resilient critters, they can, as with all things become ill. What is worrying, is that they are quite good at hiding the signs of hamster illness too, so you will need to learn your pet’s mannerisms and habits well to spot the signs. Here is a brief guide to some of the more common issues.
Abscesses are an issue for many hamsters, and tend to occur if they have been a little too excited and cut their skin. However, they often occur in the mouth, from food injury. Watch for your hamster holding on to its food in the cheek pouches for an extended amount of time.
The problem can be easily and quickly fixed by your vet, who simply drains the abscess providing immediate relief.
As with any mammal, diarrhea can be a problem if left untreated. Usually as a result of too many fresh vegetables, switching them to a diet of dry food and giving them access to plenty of water will usually resolve the issue within a couple of days.
However, diarrhea can be a symptom of wet tail; which can be extremely dangerous to your hamster’s health. Before jumping to conclusions however, check for signs of lethargy, a loss of appetite, a ruffled coat and a humped back.
Caused by stressed most often; due to cage crowding or a sudden dietary change, wet tail can be treated well if spotted early enough. If you suspect this hamster illness, be sure to visit your vet at the earliest opportunity.
There are other signs that your hamster may be ill; so things to look out for each day are discharge from the eyes and/or nose, sneezing, and huddling in a corner.
Looking after a hamster is quite easy, and hamster illness is really quite rare; just be a responsible owner however, and all should be fine.

Zhu Zhu Pets Hamster Toys are the hottest toy for Christmas 2009, it is the must-have holiday toy. They are are the hottest craze among kids age of 3 or 4 and expected to be the most popular toy of the year. BUT… Zhu Zhu Pets are playing the disappearing game. As we close in for the Christmas Holiday the Zhu Zhu pet it is getting more difficult to find and expensive.
These cute robotic creatures melted many hearts, but I had a hard time this Black Friday finding any zhu zhu pets for my kids. Toys R Us had just a 100 for the lucky first in line. I was able to get one, after standing on line for about 2 hrs! I decided I’m not running around town collecting all the pets I need one by one, so I went to Amazon. Yes, of course I paid more but it was worth the peace of mind knowing my kids won’t be disappointed this Christmas Holiday.
Amazon sells Zhu Zhu pets hamster toys for well over $20. It is the best chance of still picking them up in time for the Christmas Holiday. I strongly recommend you don’t wait, especially if your child or grandchild really has their heart set on this toy.

We had one female hamster for about five months, and we needed to get a new cage so I figured I would get another hamster. She’s pretty young. How should I bring the two hamsters together so they don’t fight and can live in the same cage?
Oh, I forgot to say they’re both teddy bear hamsters.
Dpeends on the hamster, dwarf hamsters should be better if you take them and just let them meet in your hands or somewhere, then if they dont fight put them in the cage and just watch out incase.
Syrians are never supposed to be with eachother/in the same cage. They usually want to kill eachother.

I bought a hamster and 2 weeks after I bought her she had 11 babies!!!A lot of them looked like the mother but I kept one baby and he is alot darker than her.Nearly black.They are syrian hamsters.I think they are teddy bear hamsters.Also he has big black circles around his eyes.
check at the pet store, the cage you bought her from and then you can look @ some of the males and maybe guess who daddy is.

i am getting a hamster and i need to know what the bedding costs are in pounds and how much they will cost ?! oh and if you have any other hamster tips and advice maybe a few names that would be great!!!
i think i am going to get a girl!
i have two gerbils which are sorta like hamsters but gerbils chew everything in sight and hamsters dont chew too much. bedding is about $10 for about two months pretty much it depends on how big your cage is and how much bedding you put in it. only have one hamster they can get aggressive towards the other. give it a toilet paper roll without paper on it to them about once a week b/c they like to chew on it. i named my gerblis candy and apple and then candy died so the next one was cide like apple cider. it you are getting a cage with wire on the sides (dont get one with wire on the bottom) sometimes they climb/chew the walls and might throw bedding out. also ahve a wheel inside, a food dish, water bottle, places to hide/sleep, things to chew on, a ball, and i think thats it. i like to have a carrier b/c i bring them to my sisters soccer games.

My plane i’m going on won’t allow me to bring my hamsters for carry on. Is it dangerous for them to be with the cargo?
I HAVE to bring them because i’m moving.
I cannot drive because I live in the Philippines & it’s all ocean, no roads.
As long as the airline puts them in a heated and pressurized cargo hold (like any other pet), they’ll be fine.
Check with your airline. If you’re flying Southwest, you won’t be able to bring them on at all. They have a strict no-pet policy.
I’m curious though. A 45 minute plane ride is only a couple hundred miles by car. You could drive.
