In my The Ultimate Guide To Dwarf Hamsters review, you’ll get a great deal of advice about what sort of entertainment and activity devices should be included in the cage to ensure that the hamster gets the proper amount of exercise. They also need chew toys because their teeth are always growing, leading to a constant urge to gnaw on something.

I just got 2 male robo dwarf hamsters today and according to petsmart, they just arrived at the store today… Are they a certain age when they are put up for sale? Obviously these 1s are babies but how can you tell if they are less than 6 months or more than 6 months… Are they born with teeth because 1 is sleeping right now and i see only 1 small tooth.

Roborovski’s will begin to pigment and after 6-8 days, you will start to notice little hairs on the pup’s bodies. By 10-12 days, the babies will be covered in short hair and their eyelids will be starting to develop as well as their little ears.

At this point, they might begin to wander around the cage a bit, but don’t worry, the mother will bring them back to the nest if she feels it’s necessary.

When the Robo’s reach 14-16 days old, it is safe for you to handle them.

At 4 weeks, it is time to seperate the pups from the mother and the females from the males (although it might be incredibly hard, do your best and see the sexing page for help). Keep the Robo’s in their seperate sex groups for another 2-3 weeks before selling them.

At 6-7 weeks, the hamsters are now fully independant and are ready to go to their new homes.

But I have 3 of those safair habitrail cages connected with tubes and theres also little tree house things connected aswell. so how many could I get? I was thinking of a group of 3-5? alright thanks!

Dwarfs live best in pairs so I wouldn’t get an odd number. I would say four would be the maximum number but please keep in mind that as they get older they could potentially start fighting so be prepared to seperate them.

I am planning on getting a hamster. And dwarf hamsters look just adorable!! And I was wondering do they like to be handled? And if not what type of hamster does? And do they sell them at petco/petsmart?

After you tame it and it gets used to you, you can hold it but for 5 minutes max.
Dwarfs dont like to be held a lot maybe once a day for 5 minutes.
And yes you can find them at petsmart, thats where I got my Robo hamster.
But I like Robos theyre the smallest breed but also the fastest so dont let the get away.
Once you tame a Robo you can hold them, but get them at the age of 7weeks
or older, try to get one young but not younger than 7 weeks theyre much easier to train and hold, an train.

Before you do get:
-Cage (with a water bottle and foodish, plastic wheel and a bit roomie)
-Bedding(No Pine or Cedar these can cause respitory problems use aspen which holds tunnels well or care fresh wich absorbs better)
-Food (Nutriphase)
-Large food dish (if you plan on potty training them so you dont have to change the bedding as much)
-Chew Toys (Or theyll hoard food in theyre burrows)
-Treats (For training them)
-Ball(For exersize)
Use my source its a website all about robos.

I want to know what age they will start breeding now, and when i will see them breed. I haven’t seen any of them breed yet is this a reason, are they not ready yet, at what age will they just do it and be ready?
I have got homes for these hamsters, so no lectures please:)

Yes, this is possible, but would not be the best way to breed hamsters. The new babies would be unhealthy, just like many children born to young teens. As for doing your research before breeding hamsters, I think this is a way of doing research. Don’t let others tell you different. Just keep asking questions and picking the answers you think are most reasonable. But I would also do extra research with books and online sources.

Also what sized cage would I need for these 2 dwarf hamsters?

Any help much appreciated.

I haven’t got any Dwarf Hamsters, but I am hopefully going to get some in a few weeks. In the past I have had two Syrian Hamsters (on separate occasions) and they are very friendly, but they where not as much fun as I imagine Dwarf’s are. My friend has two and I have played with them; they are very cute- however they seemed to be extraordinarily good at escaping the cage!

As for the cage size, my friend’s cage is the ’standard’ size and the hamsters love it.

Good luck deciding!

I have two robo dwarf hamsters I got in January in separate cages. Now they usually sleep under their water bottles that drip a little. I also have noticed that their fur is getting darker and they’re not grooming as much as they used to. Are they sick? What should I do?
Thanks!

That is normal. The reason why they sleep under the water bottle because they want some cold feeling. Remember that when we feel hot, we take shower. Hamster do not have shower so they like to sleep in a dripping bottle so the drips can make them feel cold.

Mine do that also. He like the water dripping and yes their fur get a little bit darker but it will return to it’s original color. My hamster has a very light cream color and sometimes it turn to dark cream but it return to normal

Which breed lives best in pairs?

females live in pairs better than males but I warn you that dwarf hamsters are naturally very VICIOUS creatures. They will bite you every chance they get. That is how my 5 yr old brother’s one of the pair was named Chew-ie…….I would suggest getting Syrian hamsters instead. They are bigger but friendlier. Or go for gerbils if you like tails.
If you are still determined to get Dwarf hamsters, Blueberry and Blackberry live well together in breed and also with each other’s breed. Chinese or Panda dwarfs I believe are only friendly with each other.

this site below may also help too

I have had hamsters before, but never a dwarf hamster. I hear that the tubes are to difficult and even dangerous for dwarf hamsters. Can anyone who has had dwarf hamsters tell me if they experienced any difficulties with these tubes?

dwarfs are fine with tubing just make sure that if there are steep sections in the tube that they will be able to reach the next part and also that they can turn around in the tube. This is because they may not be able to climb the next part or they may not feel like climbing, if they cant turn around then they will get stuck and you don’t want this to happen as it can stress them out,

other then this its fine
hope that this helps
